"The great pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do." - Walter Bagehot

. . . concerts & music-related events I've attended . . .
(and highlights thereof)

most recent years listed first
(this isn't a complete list, but it gives you a pretty good idea)

2007 -
February 24: Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band @ Oracle Arena - Oakland, CA Very good show. One of Mike's favorite musicians of all time.

June 21: Aranda @ Old Ironsides - Sacramento, CA This was one of those multi-band shows, but Mike and I left after Aranda was done. They are amazing, and we can't wait to see them again! We met the guys, and they were really nice (it's an Oklahoma City thing, I think). Unfortunately, some idiot(s) stole their equipment while they were in town. The whole flippin' trailer full! Can you believe that!? Good Lord, why in my hometown?

2006 -
August 29: American Idols Live @ Arco Arena - Sacramento, CA The first concert I attended with Mike, which makes it special automatically. The show was very good, which was, honestly, surprising to both of us. The highlights for me were: Elliott Yamin (my favorite contestant), Chris Daughtry, Mandisa (hometown lady!), Taylor Hicks (the winner), Lisa Tucker, and most of the group numbers and duets (especially "Savin' Me" by Elliott Yamin and Chris Daughtry).

November 28: Barenaked Ladies, Mike Doughty's Band @ The Bill Graham Civic Auditorium - San Francisco, CA Fan-bloody-tastic show!! My Mike's first BNL show (he's a fan now), and my first non-Holiday tour show (second in general). The setlist was like a dream. Just. Wow.

2005 -
November 08: Jason Mraz, James Blunt, Tristan Prettyman @ The Warfield - San Francisco, CA Every time I see Mraz, I say it was the best he's ever been, but it really seems like it; however, this was a show with the full band, and I prefer the acoustic trio (that's the only minus I can think of). Another minus is how crazy his newer fans can be -- I sat happily in the balcony.

December 14: Barenaked Ladies, The LeeVees @ Nob Hill Masonic Auditorium - San Francisco, CA Hands down, the best concert I've ever attended! I would see them live on a daily basis, they are that good. I got to meet them, too! Woo hoo! See my journal entry with photos here

December 17: Bryan Abrams, Jordan Knight, Jeff Timmons @ Red Devil Lounge - San Francisco, CA I got to see Bryan, and hear Color Me Badd songs live, for the first time since 1998! Good times! And dude! I met Jordan Knight! I was a New Kids on the Block fan for so many years (well, in some ways, I still am), and I just, never thought that would happen; naturally, I also met Jeff Timmons (former 98 Degrees member), and he is an absolute sweetie.

2004 -
May 16: JC Chasez @ The Fillmore - San Francisco, CA One of the best shows I've ever seen, but I expected as much from him, of course. Four things would have made it better: to have won a meet & greet pass; to have had some more good fans in the crowd (some were very immature when it came to pushing and shoving, and one grabbed JC in a very personal place -- sheesh!); to have had my good camera with me; and if The Fillmore had made one of their legendary posters for this show (why they didn't is still up for debate -- I think it's because the show date had been changed). The opening act, Samantha Ronson, was cool, too, by the way. For one thing, she performed in jeans and a t-shirt (a JC Chasez t-shirt, by the way).. I love that!

June 15: Jason Mraz @ Mountain Winery - Saratoga, CA (part of my friend Diane's birthday week). Fantastic show!!

2003 -

January 29: Jason Mraz @ Slim's - San Francisco, CA (he was so sick, and did a great job despite that -- the best live recording I own, too. Mom's first Mraz show... aww)

March 15: HoopLA @ Crossroads School - Santa Monica, CA [charity basketball event; VIP party where Mom and I met Chris Kirkpatrick (weeee!!) -- music by Jessica Simpson and Soluna]

May 27: Jason Mraz @ The Fillmore - San Francisco, CA (rumor has it, part of this will be on Jason's live DVD - I hope so. I wore my "Virginia is for Lovers" shirt, which made me Miss Popularity among Jason's friends from Virginia for some reason.. ha ha. This was the night mom and Mraz met.. aww)

June 13: Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Black Eyed Peas @ Arco Arena - Sacramento, CA Hadn't planned on going, until I won tickets on the radio June 11th -- but I'm glad I did, it was really fun; Black Eyed Peas really impressed both Mom and myself, and we got to hear part of Justin's soundcheck while we were shopping in the Kings team store.

July 23: Jason Mraz @ The Crest - Sacramento, CA My first [and only, so far] Sacramento Mraz show! Nothing beats a hometown show, and unfortunately, most of the concerts I attend aren't here (as you can see).

July 30: Dave Matthews Band, The Roots @ Sleep Train Amphitheatre - Marysville, CA My first DMB show, which I was afraid to tell the fans around me.. ha ha

November 10: Jason Mraz @ Stanford University - Palo Alto, CA (jerk-filled audience, but fun anyway). This was the first time I saw him perform "The Rainbow Connection" live, so that made it a good time in itself.

November 20: Good Charlotte @ Memorial Auditorium - Sacramento, CA Mom and I were impressed with them. I didn't think they'd be quite that amazing live, but boy was I wrong! We had great seats, too (off to the side, which let us nicely avoid the moshpit). They didn't sing my favorite GC song ("Change"), but that's ok. The best part was when just Benji and Joel sat down and did "Emotionless" completely acoustic, all backlight and emotional *cries* (yes, I cried when it happened, because I'm sappy).

2002 -

March 06: *NSYNC @ Oakland Arena - Oakland, CA Went to the soundcheck party; shook Chris' hand; met Joey again; met tour manager Tim Miller. This was also when we gave the guys the scrapbook of fan letters, photos, etc. we'd put together. The openers were: Not So Boyband {NSB}, and Ginuwine.

October 12: Jason Mraz @ The Fillmore - San Francisco, CA He opened for Gomez, whom we (Diane and I) didn't really stay for.. ha ha. This was my first Mraz show, and also the first time I met him.

October 15: Mariah Carey listening party (+meet & greet) @ Universal Records offices - San Francisco, CA What can be said about this? I mean, wow. Meeting one of your musical heroes is always a very good thing. Thanks for taking me, Diane. :)

October 17: Jason Mraz @ Troubadour - West Hollywood, CA I sang with Jason during the "Say Anything Game" - with the band and Bushwalla -- sounds and pics are on this site. What a fantastic experience!

October 20: Jason Mraz @ Cafe' Du Nord - San Francisco, CA Worst... concert... venue... ever! Jason's performance itself was, of course, great.

2001 -

February 02: Sebastian Bach @ The Boardwalk - Orangevale, CA [Sacramento suburb] Yes, the former lead singer of Skid Row -- and man, is he good looking in person! Wow! (This was possibly 2000, by the way - my memory is awful)

July 21: *NSYNC, Eden's Crush @ Oakland Coliseum - Oakland, CA Soundcheck party; met Joey Fatone; met Eden's Crush. That was a good day. ;) Not So Boyband [NSB], Samantha Mumba, and Dante' Thomas also played.

2000 -

May 14 (Mother's Day): @ Cal Expo - Sacramento, CA Featured: Anastacia, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Hanson, Mandy Moore, Blaque, Jessica Simpson, Enrique Iglesias, etc. Mom and I met Anastacia. I won a "biggest fan" contest someone entered me in, because I ran the very first Anastacia fansite -- very good times, she is an awesome person!!

August 10: Poison @ Sacramento Valley Amphitheatre - Marysville, CA Yes, I like Poison, now you know the ugly truth. ;) *sways and sings "Every Rose Has its Thorn" like a drunk moron* Cinderella opened -- how 80s hairband-tastic is that?

August 12: KISS @ Glen Helen Blockbuster Pavilion - San Bernadino, CA Funny how this was their "Farewell Tour" -- but they're still touring now. Ted Nugent opened for them, but we [my friend Charlotte and I] only caught his last song [good thing, because he scares me... ha ha!!].

1999-

April 02: 98 Degrees, Jessica Simpson @ Memorial Auditorium - Sacramento, CA A few fans drove us nuts, but it was still a great time. B*Witched also opened, but they were nothing to write home about.

June 10: "Endfest" @ CSUS - Sacramento, CA Featured: Jordan Knight, Joe McIntyre, Tone Loc, 98 Degrees, etc. Jordan Knight waved at our little group of seats, and I was back to being a little 9-year-old NKOTB fan for a moment *sigh*

Mavis Staples [Mahalia Jackson tribute tour] @ Freeborn Hall (UC Davis) - Davis, CA Wonderful show! We ended up in the front row, and during one of the songs, Mavis looked at me and said "come on sister, take my hand," so I did. Very cool.

1998 -

July 09: Color Me Badd @ Key Club - West Hollywood, CA Met my best bud Diane there! yay!! Concert, listening party, and after party -- and a little after-after party... I miss them so much!! *sigh* Also met Mark Calderon, the only CMB guy I hadn't met the previous year.

October 23: Mary Black @ Freeborn Hall (UC Davis) - Davis, CA Very good Celtic singer; did a great rendition of Sting's "Fields of Gold."

1997 -

July 10: Color Me Badd @ Solano County Fair - Vallejo, CA Watched soundcheck, met Bryan, Kevin, and Sam -- in that order, because Sam was late... bad Sam!! Diane was there, but we didn't meet -- and it turns out we were standing pretty close together, too! Small world. What's even stranger is my online buddy David from England was there -- didn't meet him either, but he remembered seeing me (and even what I wore).

1995 -

October: Billy Graham Crusade @ Arco Arena - Sacramento, CA Five-night event, included concerts by: Michael W. Smith, DC Talk; and of course, his 3,000+ member choir (that I was in) four of the nights. Singing in that choir was easily one of the most memorable experiences of my life, very awesome to be a part of one giant voice like that. The only night we didn't sing was "Youth Night" when DC Talk performed a full show (which was great, by the way).

1994 -

"Spring Jam" @ Cal Expo - Sacramento, CA Featuring BLACKstreet, Salt n Pepa, etc. Teddy Riley shook my hand -- good times.

1993-

"Spring Jam" @ Cal Expo - Sacramento, CA I don't remember who played that year.. ha ha, but I believe the girl group Jade was among them. I think this was the year I nearly had a heatstroke, which would account for the vague memory.

1992 -

August 11: Color Me Badd, The Party @ Redwood Amphitheatre (in Great America) - Santa Clara, CA Several of my future friends were at this one, too. It's so weird how that happened.

October: festival type show @ Arco Arena - Sacramento, CA I believe this was meant as a "Rock the Vote" kind of thing. Kris Kross, Mary J. Blige, and quite a few others, performed.

1991 -

December 14: Paula Abdul, Color Me Badd @ Arco Arena - Sacramento, CA Yes, I went just to see Color Me Badd, who were her opening act. However, I was impressed with Paula's show -- very entertaining.

1988 -

December [22nd, I think]: New Kids on the Block @ Arco Arena - Sacramento, CA This was the first major concert of my life -- it was SUCH a big deal to me. This was their Christmas tour, and I remember there was a big snowman on the stage that didn't inflate all the way, so it was all floppy.. ha ha. Dino, and The Cover Girls opened the show. We sat in the nosebleed section, but I didn't care at all, because I was in the room. :)

1980s - late 70s

I saw The Oak Ridge Boys, quite literally, about 100 times as a child, and save for two times (once at Great America theme park, once in Jamestown, New York), it was always at the same venue: The South Shore Room @ Harrah's - Lake Tahoe, CA/NV. I have a bunch of guitar picks, drumsticks, etc. from those shows -- and even caught the flu from Steve Sanders while he was singing to me. I was so happy about that at the time... *snort* ah, to be a kid.

I also saw: The Monkees (without Mike Nesmith); Debbie Reynolds & Donald O'Connor; Sammy Davis Jr; Bill Medley... and a lot of others, at that same venue. Mom and I went nearly every weekend when I was a kid. It was good times. :)
